Pixel Drop: Stay closer, stay safer.

It’s all about making your Pixel device feel new again, and now the Pixel Drop itself has a new look of its own.

The March 2025 Pixel Drop is an exciting wave of new features that can make your Pixel phone or watch even more helpful, connected, and intelligent.¹ This Pixel Drop doesn’t just refresh your devices – it redefines what your Pixel can do, from keeping you protected from scammers to elevating your live-streaming experience. 

Protect yourself from falling victim to fraudulent calls and text messages with Scam Detection. The new feature uses on-device AI to alert you when it detects conversation patterns commonly associated with scams.² For example, if a caller claims to be from your bank and asks you to urgently transfer funds due to an alleged account breach, Scam Detection can provide audio and haptic alerts, plus a pop-up warning that the request is likely a scam. 

Scam Detection is built to help protect your privacy and ensure you’re in control of your data. Scam Detection for phone calls is off by default, and you can decide whether you want to activate it. You can turn it off for all calls in the Phone app settings, or during a particular call. The detection model and processing for Scam Detection for phone calls are fully on-device. That means that no conversation audio or transcription is stored on the phone, sent to Google servers or anywhere else, or retrievable after the call. 

For Scam Detection in messages, you can turn the feature off in the settings of your Messages app. No data from scam text messages is shared off the device unless you decide to report the sender to Google.

Research shows that over $1 trillion was lost to scams globally in 2024, with phone calls and text messages at the top of the list of successful methods.³ It’s difficult to be perfectly vigilant and recognize scams 100% of the time, which is why Pixel’s Scam Detection can help protect you from these attacks when your guard drops. 

Unboxers, cooking streamers, gamers, beauty influencers, and other content creators: This is big. Now you can livestream from your Pixel 9 phones using select external cameras. Connect your Pixel phone with a GoPro or other Pixel phone camera, and use popular social apps to stream from different angles for more professional-looking videos.⁴

The Pixel Watch 3 is the first watch that can prompt a call to life-saving emergency services when it detects loss of pulse during events like cardiac or respiratory arrest. 

If the Pixel Watch 3’s heart rate sensor detects signs of pulselessness, an AI-based algorithm combines pulse sensor data with other inputs like movement signals to confirm a loss of pulse event. If detected, it triggers a check-in, and can escalate to an alarm and a call to emergency services.⁵

This feature is coming to users by the end of April 2025.

The new location-sharing feature in the Find My Device app lets you share and receive live locations with trusted contacts, providing a sense of security for both everyday check-ins and emergencies. It’s great for coordinating meetups, ensuring family members get home safely, and simply staying in touch.

Now you can use text-to-image prompts to create images of people in Pixel Studio.⁶ Just type a description of a person or scene you’d like to see, or choose the style you want, like “video game” or “3D cartoon.” And watch in amazement as Pixel Studio creates it.

Meet a better way to organize and find screenshots. Pixel Screenshots, powered by efficient on-device AI, will now automatically suggest screenshots to be added to your collections, so you can find them faster and easier.⁶

With expanded satellite support on Pixel, you can stay connected even when you don’t have cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. Options vary based on your wireless carrier and location:

• T-Mobile Starlink Satellite Connectivity: If you’re a T-Mobile user and you’re somewhere without cellular or Wi-Fi, you’ll still be able to text message your friends, family, and everyone else – even 911 during an emergency – over a satellite connection.⁷

• Verizon Skylo Satellite eSOS and SMS Messaging: If you’re a Verizon user and you’re somewhere without cellular or Wi-Fi, Pixel can connect to emergency services via satellite to get help. Additionally, you can text message your friends, family and everyone else over satellite when you don’t have cellular or Wi-Fi.⁸

Within every Pixel Drop, you’ll find more Pixel updates and improvements in addition to major new features like the ones above. This drop also includes more accurate step count tracking, menstrual health tracking on Pixel Watch 3 with the Fitbit app,⁹ auto-bedtime mode on the Pixel Watch 2, and bug fixes.

Or head to Settings, then System, then Software Updates to check for and install the latest features. You can also click App updates and ensure all your apps are up to date in the Play Store.
