4 ways Pixel can simplify your phone calls.
From call screening to note taking, your Google phone is packed with AI-powered calling tools that save time and make your life easier.

We’re all busy. There’s work to do, classes to study for, kids to pick up from school, and events to attend. And sometimes we need a little help – especially when it comes to phone calls.

Whether you’re tired of waiting on hold, needing help with call screening, or wishing you had a reliable notetaker during an important call, your Google Pixel is there for you. It’s packed with AI-powered calling tools that can do all of the above and more, saving you time so you can focus on what’s important to you.

Here are 4 ways your Pixel can simplify and improve your phone calls:

1. Filter and decline spam

Do you find yourself avoiding picking up calls from random numbers? “Call screening” is when a person or a device acts as an intermediary between you and the caller, making sure it’s someone you want to talk to. If you’re receiving unsolicited calls from unknown phone numbers, Google Pixel’s Call Screen feature can detect and filter them out for you.2

Call Screen can be especially valuable when you use the same phone for your work and personal life. Just ask Jacqui Podel. A nutrition consultant in New York City, her phone is constantly ringing – with calls from friends and clients, and occasionally with spam. “If I get a call and don’t recognize the number, [Pixel] will ask who it is for me,” Podel says. Depending on the reply, which Pixel displays on the screen, she can choose to take the call, block the number, or direct the caller to voicemail.3

Call Screen on Pixel can also filter and decline robocalls and spam for you. After Google AI has a brief conversation with whoever is calling to find out their name and the reason for their call, it’ll determine whether the call is spam and automatically decline it. This call screening feature is especially handy for Podel during work hours, when she receives client calls from numbers she may not recognize. “I don’t have to waste my time screening spam calls,” she says.

Pixel lets Podel spend less time contending with bots, so she can work more efficiently and get back to spending her time with friends, family, and loved ones.

How to turn Call Screen on and off

Call Screen isn’t switched on by default. To turn on Call Screen on all Pixel phones in the US, open the Phone app, then tap More, then Settings, then Spam and Call Screen or Call Screen. Select your protection level – for Pixel 6 and below, select Unknown call settings and then choose the types of callers you’d like to screen. For Pixel 7 and above, under Protection level, you can Automatically screen calls on or off with the toggle button for spam, possibly faked numbers, and first-time callers.

2. Take private notes

With Google Pixel, you never have to scramble for a pen and paper again. Let’s say you have an important work call and want to take meticulous notes. When you turn on the Call Notes feature, your Pixel will transcribe and summarize key details from your conversation, saving them privately on your device, so you – and only you – can read them when you need to.4

Here’s how it works: Once you activate Call Notes and everyone on the call is notified, Gemini Nano, the AI built into your Pixel, identifies key dates, times, and other information you discussed, then automatically creates a private summary that you can refer to later.

So, whether you’re booking a reservation at your favorite restaurant, planning a summer vacation, or following up on a car insurance claim, you can have a completely private summary of your most important conversations, thanks to Call Notes, Pixel’s automated note-taking feature.

3. End the frustration of being on hold

Few things are more irritating than being put on hold for what feels like forever. Your Google Pixel can estimate your wait time, direct you to the right department, and even do your holding for you.

Imagine you’re calling the cable company’s toll-free number to make an appointment with a technician. Wait Times lets you know whether a long hold is likely based on that business’s average call length.1 The AI-powered Direct My Call feature will display the call menu options on your screen with buttons to choose from, so you don’t have to worry about selecting the wrong option and having to start all over again.3 And with the Hold for Me feature, your Pixel will notify you with a sound, a vibration, and a prompt on your screen once someone is on the line and ready.5

When you’ve finished the call and made your appointment, you can share information about its length to help make Wait Times even more accurate.

Whether you’re tired of waiting on hold or wishing for help with call screening, your Google Pixel is there for you. 4. Say goodbye to distracting sounds

Important calls can happen at inopportune moments. Like when you’re talking to your boss about an assignment and there’s construction going on in her backyard, making it difficult to hear. That’s where Clear Calling comes in. It’s another feature on your Pixel that uses AI to improve your calls.

Whether you’re talking to the car dealership or your Aunt Sue, Clear Calling recognizes, isolates, and eliminates distracting sounds like wind and traffic noise on the other end of the line, while enhancing your caller’s voice.3 You’ll spend less time saying, “I’m sorry, can you repeat that?” and more time in conversation.

Simplifying complex calls, calming noisy ones, screening out unwanted ones, and jotting down private notes for the important ones – your Google Pixel is here to help make your phone life easier.
