Frequently asked questions. What is Google Store trade-in?
It's our trade-in programme that can help you to get the latest Pixel device from Google. If your trade-in device is eligible for credit, you can offset the purchase price of a new one. You can do all of this online at the Google Store, making it convenient for you to complete your transaction all in one place.
How does it work?
We've made it easy to trade in an eligible device online. During your purchase of a new Pixel device, select 'Start trade-in' on the 'Trade-in' screen. Just answer a few questions regarding the brand, model and condition of your device. We'll provide an estimated trade-in value. If you accept the trade-in estimate online and complete your purchase, we'll arrange for you to send your old device to our trade-in partner. You'll receive your new device before returning the old one, which gives you time to set the new one up.

Once our trade-in partner has received your old device, we'll inspect it and verify that its condition matches what you told us at the time of purchase. If everything is in order, we'll credit your original purchase method. If the condition of your device doesn't match what you described, a new estimated trade-in value will be credited back to you unless during your purchase you chose to receive your old device back without credit if its condition doesn't match what you described.

How will the value of my old device be credited to me?
Refund is based on the device received matching the description that you provided at time of estimate (manufacturer, model, whether it turns on, whether it has screen damage, etc.) (and is paid after this). The refund will be issued to the form of payment that you used for the order. If the trade-in refund exceeds the cost of your new Pixel device, the excess amount will be provided as Store credit. Devices sent for trade-in must be received within 30 days of receiving your new device, provided that the purchased device has not been returned during that time.
What conditions would preclude my device from being eligible for trade-in?
Please do not send your device if it has a damaged or swollen battery. If the inspection results show swelling or other physical damage to the battery, the device will not be eligible for credit and cannot be returned due to safety issues and local regulatory requirements.

Please note that phones reported lost or stolen, phones found to be counterfeit, phones that don't power on/off and phones that are not factory reset when received will also not be accepted for trade-in, and may not be returned due to safety issues and local regulatory requirements.

How much will I get for my trade-in?
It depends on the device, model, manufacturer and condition. Answer a few questions accurately, and once we've received the device within the specified time frame and have verified its condition, you're likely to receive the full amount of the estimated refund. Bear in mind that our trade-in partner needs to receive your device within 30 days of receiving your new phone, and the condition needs to match what you told us.
What devices are eligible for Google Store trade-in?
You can trade in Google Pixel phones and third-party devices. Many third-party devices are also eligible for a trade-in credit.
How long does the trade-in process take?
Generally, it takes three to four weeks from when you send your device. But the sooner you send your device, the sooner we can verify its condition and process your credit.
Can I trade in more than one device?
You can only trade in one device per Pixel purchase. If you'd like to trade in multiple devices, you can do so by purchasing multiple phones in separate orders.
How do I pack my device for trade-in, and how quickly should I send in my trade-in kit?
Follow the instructions included in your trade-in kit. It explains how to prepare, pack and post your device. Bear in mind that the estimated trade-in value is valid for 30 days, and we encourage you to send the device within this time frame to ensure that you get the value.
Is my personal data safe?
Before you send your device, we'll tell you how to back up all your data and then erase it from your old device. This ensures that all your personal information is completely removed from your device before you trade it in.
If I select financing as the payment method for a new device, how will I receive the trade-in value?
If you select Google Store Financing as a payment option, the trade-in value will be refunded to your financing balance. Note that if you've also financed the device that you're trading in, you'll continue to be responsible for those payments, even after trading in your device. If you select Verizon device payment, we'll deduct the value from the full retail price of your new device.
Does Google offer recycling?
Yes. Please visit Device recycling to learn more.
Is there a way to track my trade-in status?
You can find the status of your trade-in by selecting 'trade-in details' from your order history.
- Confirmed: You've started the trade-in process and got an email confirmation.
- Device assessed: We've sent you an email with the value of your old device.
- Cancelled: You've cancelled your trade-in before you got your kit.
Can I cancel a trade-in?
If you haven’t yet shipped your device, you can cancel your trade-in by simply keeping your device. If you’ve already shipped your device, the trade-in can’t be canceled.
Do I have to include accessories like chargers and cables?
You don’t have to, but you can always send in your chargers and cables, and we will recycle them for you.
