Ever jumped up in the excitement of your child’s goal and you didn’t have time to get your video in focus? What can you do when that almost-perfect video is ruined by shaky footage or a blurry background? Luckily, that’s exactly the kind of problem Video Boost was created to solve.
One of the new Pixel AI video editing features in Pro controls, Video Boost allows you to easily edit shaky, grainy, poorly lit, and otherwise imperfect videos. And Video Boost works seamlessly with other features on
You can also take high-quality still images from your recordings with Video Boost. The reason: stills from 8K video become 33-megapixel photos, which means they’re rich in detail. “That is mind-blowing, being able to grab a still from a video and still have a great photo to use,” says Rodriguez, the Google senior product marketing manager.
“Your Pixel 9 Pro is a great start to making pro-quality videos,” says Sebastian Rodriguez, a senior product marketing manager for Google Pixel Camera.
When recording in daylight, Video Boost uses AI video processing to balance light while improving colours and contrast. Whether you’re a content creator vlogging your day in your life or trying to capture that goal at a sporting event, Video Boosts helps reduce shakiness with video stabilisation and can now enhance videos to up to 8K resolution on Pixel 9 Pro, so you’ll get the best video quality of Pixel yet
Before Video Boost, getting sharp video in dim lighting was tricky. The result was often grainy faces, jumbled shadows, and annoying streaks. That’s what used to happen when Jason Wiltjer, a structural design engineer and Pixel 8 Pro user, tried to take videos of his cat, Ellie. A small black Bombay, she loves sprinting up and down the stairs at home. It’s adorable. But between Ellie’s dark hair and the low indoor light, Wiltjer’s videos never showed much detail. She looked more like “an abyss” than an actual cat. “The video was either just completely black,” he says, “or it tries to bring out details but it looks grainy.”
Now all Wiltjer has to do is open the Pro controls in his Pixel 8 Pro phone’s camera, turn on Video Boost, hit record, and let Ellie do her thing. Within a few minutes or a few hours, depending on the length of the clip, Google processes his original version in the cloud and creates studio-quality recordings.
Video Boost also works seamlessly with other Pixel video features on Pixel Pro phones.
Super Res Zoom Video, now available on Pixel 9 Pro phones, records video like you’re close to the action, even if you’re seated far away, like at your favourite concert or catching the AFL Finals. With Super Res Zoom Video, it combines a powerful telephoto lens and advanced video processing to give you smooth, high-quality video up to 20x closer - so you’ll be able to capture every mic swing, crowd surf, and wink on stage, or every try, penalty, and tackle on the field. Combine it with Video Boost, and you’ll get incredibly well-lit, clear videos.
