One of the new Pixel AI video editing features in Pro controls, Video Boost allows you to easily edit shaky, grainy, poorly lit, and otherwise imperfect videos. And Video Boost works seamlessly with other features on Pixel Pro phones like Night Sight Video and Super Res Zoom Video¹, so it can help you fix videos taken in low light or when the action is in the distance.

Google’s Tensor chip in your Pixel processes the video, reducing background noise and improving your lighting. Your Pixel saves the original version on your device and sends a new version to the cloud, where you can access it. Next, your phone’s AI software automatically removes any graininess, stabilises movement, and adjusts exposure to create beyond-stunning HDR videos – including those in 8K if you have a Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL phone.

You can also take high-quality still images from your recordings with Video Boost. The reason: stills from 8K video become 33-megapixel photos, which means they’re rich in detail. “That is mind-blowing, being able to grab a still from a video and still have a great photo to use,” says Rodriguez, the Google senior product marketing manager.

When recording in daylight, Video Boost uses AI video processing to balance light while improving colours and contrast. Before Video Boost, getting sharp video in dim lighting was tricky. The result was often grainy faces, jumbled shadows, and annoying streaks. That’s what used to happen when Jason Wiltjer, a structural design engineer and Pixel 8 Pro user, tried to take videos of his cat, Ellie. A small black Bombay, she loves sprinting up and down the stairs at home. It’s adorable. But between Ellie’s dark hair and the low indoor light, Wiltjer’s videos never showed much detail. Within a few minutes or a few hours, depending on the length of the clip, Google processes his original version in the cloud and creates studio-quality recordings.
