WNBA stars Candace Parker and Kelsey Plum bond over banter and Google Pixel phones.
In a conversation with Google, Plum shares how Pixel helps her and Parker on and off the court.

On the court, they’re trading baskets. Off it, Candace Parker and Kelsey Plum are trading playful banter.

Plum calls Parker’s fashion choices “criminal,” while Parker playfully claps back, calling herself a “smooth criminal.” Joking aside, there’s a lot of mutual admiration between the two star players of the WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces. Plum compliments Parker’s versatility, saying she “has a skill set no one else has.” Indeed, Parker, a seven-time all-star, is considered one of the greatest WNBA players of all time.

Aces on the court

In some ways, Parker and Plum are opposites: Parker has had a 15-year career, while Plum is a rising star who entered the league as the first overall pick in the 2017 draft. On the court, however, their playing styles are aligned. Last season, the Aces averaged 22 assists a game – second-highest in the league and evidence of an unselfish playing style.

Their experience and fashion sense may differ, but both agree that Google Pixel Fold is essential to getting ready for the game – or winding down from one.

That might mean blasting an energizing song on the phone’s speakers. Or reviewing game film on its immersive 7.6" display.

Or both – Pixel Fold’s Split Screen is great for multitasking, letting you use two apps at once instead of toggling back and forth.1 In Plum’s case, it comes in handy when she’s texting friends and family while searching for new restaurants to get a post-game meal. (Her go-to grub? Chicken tacos.)

Most importantly, Pixel Fold can help players remember the big moments amidst a fast-paced life. The front-facing camera, for example, brings stunning resolution to selfies off the court, like the Aces’ recent trip to the White House.

Google recently caught up with Plum, who shared her memories of being drafted, her favorite Pixel feature, and how she manages life as a star WNBA player.

Your momentous draft night wasn’t that long ago. What’s the feeling you get now when you see rookies get drafted?

I think about when I was drafted, and I’m just so excited for rookies. It’s just a great moment in a person’s life that they’ve worked really hard for and that their family has poured so much into it. It’s honestly just a feeling of being so excited for them!

When you first discovered Magic Eraser2on Pixel Fold, what was your reaction? What was one of the most memorable erases you’ve made?

I love it! Who doesn’t love that feature?! I’ll erase any awkward background people I don’t know, for sure. I’ve done that many times, so I’m not sure if there’s one in particular!

How do you balance basketball and your personal life?

I feel like it’s tough. It’s an ongoing process. You never perfect it, but for me, I find balance by spending time with family and friends, and then also in prayer and meditation – that has been really helpful for me in feeling like I’m in a good space. Taking care of myself spiritually really helps me live an all-around prosperous life.

When the Aces hosted the WNBA All-Star Weekend in July, what were you most excited to share about your city? What do fans need to know about Las Vegas?

It was amazing, not just being around family, but also around the fans. I think we have a great network in Vegas and the city shows a ton of love, so to be able to represent the Aces here – my teammates and I took a lot of pride in that. Las Vegas put on a tremendous weekend, so for me, the pride of being able to have it here was really awesome.

And Vegas is so much more than the Strip! There are so many food places, and there’s a ton to do. I consider myself a local now, and for me, I really only go to the Strip to play basketball. It’s all-over a great community – there’s great energy here, it’s contagious!
